
When my graphic design professor asked our capstone class what project we wanted to focus on, I was caught off guard by the realization that it was deeply tied to the vulnerability of who we are and how we want to present ourselves professionally. I will honestly say that I was afraid to share my thoughts because I did not know whether I should step into the professional field through my second language, my native language, or through the loud, colorful side of myself that has always been part of who I am.
As an immigrant and a student with English as my second language, I experienced the feeling of losing part of the identity rooted in the culture that shaped me. I felt as though my story was fading in the process of adapting and searching for a sense of belonging through migration.
As a result of this finding process, I’ve designed a magazine that amplifies, recognizes, and honors the richness of our cultures.
